You have eight years of driving experience in your home country. Your driving test is coming up in a week. To pass your ICBC TEST, you need to master two main areas. ICBC Examiners Requirements & Your Eight Years of Habits.

AREA01: ICBC Examiners Requirements

SHORT TERM MEMORY (few hours)

AREA02: Your Eight Years of Habits

LONG TERM MEMORY (eight years)

  • Your brain & body
  • Observing your habits

HOW DO YOU LEARN AREA01?

Most hire a knowledgeable driving instructor who provides a long detailed list of things the examiners’ scores. Instructors know these two ICBC books and learn other ICBC requirements by working with road tests. Instructors also learn from other instructors as well as training courses.

Or you can read the two ICBC books, research online, and drive all directions from the test centre building.

Most of us store this test-day-way in our short-term memory.

HOW DO YOU LEARN AREA02?

It’s difficult for most of us to see ourselves and observe our habits and behaviours. Videotaping yourself is the most effective way to see.

Hiring an observant instructor or friend to watch and collect your habits is another way to see your habits.

This information is in your long-term memory.

SO WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE TO PASS THE ICBC TEST-DAY WAY?

  1. One answer is, take the examiners’ list and make it look like you have done them for eight years. These need practise-time to perfect.
  2. Another answer is, take the short term memory list and transfer it into long term memory. How do you do this?
  3. A third answer is to erase your long term habits that go against what ICBC wants. This one is difficult when under test pressures.

So how does one take these short term memory things and convert them to long-term memory?

  • The answer is SLEEP.
  • PRACTISE, REPEAT and SLEEP.
  • PRACTISE, REPEAT and SLEEP.
  • PRACTISE, REPEAT and SLEEP.

DO THESE THINGS TO LEARN THE NEW TEST-DAY WAY AND PASS!

  1. Hire an experienced instructor.
  2. Build a list of the examiner requirements.
  3. Build a list of the habits that you need to eliminate.
  4. Review these lists for 10 minutes every day or more.
  5. Close your eyes and visualize driving this new way as many times in a day as you can.
  6. When you drive starting today, up to your test day, practise this new way as carefully as possible for as many hours as you can.

Good luck.

Practise this new way as carefully as possible for as many hours as you can.
