Parking is the ultimate conclusion to all driving.
You drive for the afternoon and finally arrive. Now, what will you do?
You need to park! Parking is the end goal of all driving.
Place the car safely anywhere you find a spot.
SO WHAT IS THE KEY TO PARKING?
You must learn to steer the rear of the vehicle, by looking and directing the rear window.
HOW TO GET GOOD AT PARKING
find a huge parking lot
place your car in reverse gear
ensure you know where all objects are to ensure you never get close to anything
drive backways doing squares, circles, x’s, and figure eights – but keep backing up
use your eyes to aim through the parking lot at objects far off to the outer sides of the lot
notice that steering backwards and looking back is the same skill are driving forward – you steer in the direction you want the front window to go
also notice that there is a delay in the steering backward of about 5 meters or the length of the vehicle because the steering wheels are on at the front of the car, not the back of the car
this works because the majority of our driving is forward developing strong forward-thinking habits. But to reverse you must learn to think backwards and look backwards which needs enough time to stop using your forward habits.
persist with this and in a short time your brain will say AHA and you will then be able to park anywhere anytime for the rest of your life – try it – you will see
