fast traffic at night is often anxiety producing

My observation of sitting beside a driver experiencing a panic attack or a sudden rush of anxiety is nothing compared to the driver’s internal experience as we both attempt to survive the incident.

I observe calm and careful change to sudden and fast.

  • Wrenching the steering one way then the other,
  • eyes wide open locked straight on to the closest object,
  • and foot full to the floor mistakenly on the gas!

After watching this event repeat with several clients, I have come to an invented-in-my-garage explanation.

  • Feet move fast.
  • Feet near always go to the gas.
  • Hands move fast, furiously, often stumbling to keep up to the hyper-speed demanded.
  • Wide open eyes lock on to the nears object.
  • Child-like sounds fill the car. “Oh, No!” “Oh, No!”

It seems anxiety and panic require FAST! All three core driving tools, hands, feet and eyes, must go as fast as possible! Hence full gas is the best choice, even though the client apologizes profusely for the mistake and explains that they don’t remember hitting the gas full-blast.

But I don’t see these actions as a mistake. I see your must-survive brain taking control of you, hammering the gas full-on to escape the dangerous situation.

I observe calm and careful change to

sudden and fast.

After hearing my theory, several clients add two pieces:

  • I do experience an incredible acceleration of all information.
  • I feel I must speed up all actions to keep up with the urgent command to escape!

Talking about this experience is the first step toward finding a resolution which leads us to more questions:

  • So, what do we do now?
  • Who is really in control of your powerful brain?
  • How does one change this panic button to calm-driving?
  • During a driving lesson, how do you help manage ‘The Speed of Anxiety’?

QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE YOUR NEXT DRIVING LESSON

What is their training? Basic 3 weeks to become an instructor?

Did the 3 weeks teach them safe driving strategies or crash research or any research studies at all?

What about their own driving skills? Are they trained? Skid school? Pull a trailer? Stick shift? First Aid? Any other safety training of any kind?

What was the last research study they read? Or have they ever read anything related to safety crashes, causes or the effect education has on drivers?

What is their crash experience? How do they drive?

How many years ago did they take their last training program or any related training? 20 years ago! Never!

GO TO THE INSTRUCTOR’s WEBSITE, FIND THE TESTIMONIALS NAME, SEARCH REDDIT, WHATSAPP, MESSENGER, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM AND ASK THE REAL PERSON WHAT THEIR EXPERIENCE WAS WITH THE DRIVING SCHOOL AND INSTRUCTOR before you drop $600+ DOLLARS!
