P Park R Reverse N Neutral D Drive L Low or sometimes L is S Second. Knowing what all of these do and what they are for is a great way to build a Calm Driver. Not knowing what these things do can cause a panic when you need them or when something goes wrong. This is a 2000 kg steel box that can go hundreds of kmh, creating a huge destructive power in YOUR CONTROL! For sure, you should know what N Neutral is used for.

You are driving down the road at 80 kmh and your engine stalls. The momentum will keep your car moving forward. Go with this momentum for now. Do not stop. Slide the transmission shift forward by pushing the stick, not the release button, and it will slide easily into neutral. Restart the engine. Often the engine will restart, and again you simply pull the stick, and it will slide back into a drive gear. If this fails, turn on your hazard emergency lights and slowly drift to the right off the roadway. You may also need your horn if other drivers are not seeing your flashing lights.

Neutral to Drive. Drive to Neutral is a function allowing the car you restart and yet keep the car moving forward.

Neutral is also used to allow all four wheels to roll freely, turning the car into a big wagon sort of. I use it when I am in a car wash, allowing the ground device to pull my car forward with all wheels rolling freely.

I also use it if my car breaks down and I want to push the car off to the side of the road. Neutal allows all four wheels to roll freely. Be careful if this is on a hill. The car can roll and pick up speed dangerously. It’s best to keep someone inside the car to brake or parking brake to stop the runaway rolling car.

If a tow truck pulls me, I will place the car into neutral. Sometimes the tow truck will lift the four wheels off the ground if they cannot get into the car to change it into neutral.

Now you know what neutral is, but please find a quiet parking lot to practice it.

Neutral Gear is red to warn you that you are no in a Drive Gear
